Psychiatric survivors often have a lot of head stuff to filter through each day just in order to function. Just as a child being abused cannot be expected to attend well in school, someone who has been abused and then revictimized by their health care providers (“treatments”) must also filter through all the garbage we were told about ourselves. Learning to calm the noise and living in a place of confidence comes from practice so please, psych survivors, be gentle with yourselves and cautious with what you expose yourself to. To heal from the first trauma of families full of dysfunction we must also allow ourselves to heal from the trauma of being told who we are by those who never took the time to get to know us. ~Sks
